FREE TAX HELP FOR RESIDENTS ACROSS THE BALLARAT ELECTORATE

With the start of the 2008-09 financial year comes the time to fill out our tax returns.

Catherine King MP, Federal Member for Ballarat, has arranged for free tax assistance to those earning less than $35,000 per annum and increases by $2,500 for every dependent child. This service is available until the end of October.

“Previously my office has had over 200 people who come in to get assistance with their tax,” Catherine King said.

“For many families the impact of cost of living pressures on the family budget means paying a tax consultant is not financially possible. This service offers useful assistance to members of the community that really need tax help.”

People on low incomes can access free and confidential assistance with filling in and filing their 2007-08 income tax returns.

“A Tax Help volunteer will be available between 10am and 4pm for one to two days a week, free of charge, in my office to give people assistance completing their tax returns.”

Appointments can be made by contacting Linda Christian in Catherine King’s office on 1300 131 743.

“All that is required for an appointment is a copy of your payment summary and any relevant receipts. The demand can be quite considerable so please make sure you have an appointment,” Catherine King said.
