So much to do ... so little time in Trentham & surrounds ...

Trentham Falls is the longest single drop waterfall in Victoria, plunging some 32 metres over basalt columns. Trentham Falls was formed some five million years ago from molten lava rapidly cooling as it flowed along the old Coliban River valley. At the base of the Falls, quartz gravel and the former river bed can be seen. The Falls reserve protects one of the best remnants of original vegetation in the area, with stands of manna gum, messmate, stringybark and narrow-leaved peppermint. The reserve is ideal for picnics or barbecues, with picnic tables, fireplaces and toilets provided for visitors. The Trentham Cascades are a short walk further north from the Falls Reserve car park.

To get there, take Falls Road (the continuation of High Street) from the town centre past the football ground and Golf Club. Turn right at the T-intersection at the Daylesford road, and then left at the sign some 100 metres up the road.

HISTORIC SITES

Trentham has many historical sites dating back to the goldrush. There are ruins and the remains of old gold diggings scattered throughout the surrounding bush. The old police station and slab lock-up is located in Camp Street behind the current Police Station. There are two original horse troughs in Trentham: one located near the rotunda at the corner of of High Street and Cosmo Road, while the other is by the old butcher's shop in Market Street near High Street.

QUARRY STREET RESERVE

The picturesque Quarry Street Reserve and Lake is a popular venue for barbecues and picnics. There are undercover gas barbecues, picnic facilities and toilets at the reserve and there is enough space even for large groups. The reserve was created through voluntary labour and is located on Stony Creek, near the intersection of Quarry Street and Victoria Street. The springs in the south-western corner of the reserve are thought to have been Trentham's first water supply.
